SNMPGET works, poller fails?

I've run into a irritating problem, I have some graphs where manually GETing the snmp value works fine, but the poller keeps getting a U
(from cacti log)

now if I call that exact same value with snmpget it works. note that community is defined globally and port is defined to be 1161 for this template:

snmpget -v 2c -c COMMUNITY HOSTNAME:1161 .1.3.6.1.4.1.42.2.145.3.163.1.1.2.101.1.2.2
SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.42.2.145.3.163.1.1.2.101.1.2.2 = Counter64: 10

Any thoughts? is there a way to get cacti to dump the snmp commands it is calling?

Silly question, but are you running the get from the same box that is hosting Cacti?

Also, have you double checked your community string, SNMP version, etc? Has this configuration always worked and has just started playing up, or has it never worked?

I've been testing from the same box, but just did it again to make double+ sure, and it's doing the same thing. The config works in general, I have close to 150 machines in this instance, and about 10-15 using this data template that work. I added 3 new ones today, and they all fail in the same manner

Check the poller_items table. Make sure it's using the correct SNMP port.

even though the template says 1161, the poller_item table has 161. I'll change that

That's what I thought. This is a know issue. I should fix it if I could just make the time....
