I would like to know how to upgrade a plugin without lose my work. For example for the monitor plugin.

The route that we typically take is to simply copy over the old plugin directory with the new one, and then goto Plugin Management. In most cases, the upgrade is automatic at that point.
If you are concerned, make sure you make first a backup of your database, second, make a backup of your plugin.
