cactid poor performance - potential problem

Post by MG »

I'm running cacti 0.8.6b and cactid 0.8.6b and from what I have read in the 'post your stats' thread, the performance seems pretty poor.

This is currently running on a 4cpu Sun 420R with 4gb RAM

Code: Select all

SYSTEM STATS: Time: 263.2372 s, Method: cactid, Processes: 1, Threads: 8, Hosts: 117, Hosts/Process: 117
If I try and increase the threads I seem to get more 'ERROR: The POPEN timed out' messages (almost like they were fighting over something), which get's worse the more I increase it.

The hosts I'm polling are pretty much all via snmp (net-snmp), and nothing fancy (using the vanilla Win2k template).

Anyone got any ideas where I can look to speed things up.

Actually it looks like the database is being hammered which can't be helping.. is this normal? :o

Code: Select all

# /opt/mysql/bin/mysqladmin status
Uptime: 47810 Threads: 19 Questions: 2534014 Slow queries: 50 Opens: 1626 Flush tables: 1 Open tables: 48 Queries per second avg: 53.002
