Poller time out

Hi,
I am new to cacti and I am working on using external scripts with cacti to generate graphs. I upgraded to Cacti 0.8.6 b last Friday and I am running into some problems now. My poller.php runs every five minutes and after every 3 or 4 cycles it hangs up. It polls forever and times out when 296 seconds elapses. My cacti log file is as follows:

When the poller.php hangs up I get a 'U' in the output. When I restart the poller manually it starts working fine but it again creates troubles after 4 or 5 cycles. Can anyone help me with this problem?
