Hello,

I am creating a tool to create these maps in Cacti.
I think it will be finished in one month because i'm very busy ...

I will certainly post it in this forum.

Best regards,

François.

Awesome! How about a preview.. ? Or your general idea of what you're going to do ? Maybe a sneak peek screenshot ? :D

Re-hello,

Sorry for my poor english ...
I can't post a preview now, because my arrows are so ... ugly !
I think I will be able to show a preview map in 2 or 3 days. The maps are like that (not exactly but it is a good representation of the spirit of the tool)http://support.free.fr/reseau/carte_reseau.html

Actually, the tool is php+GD based. All the informations are saved in the mysql database. I'm now creating the map rendering system. A second part of the work is to create pages to fill the databases.

The maps will have 3 layers :

- The first layer, is one, or more background image. You can choose what you want : countries maps, logos, everything in fact ! You can place everything you want where you want : you just have x and y points to place it on the map.
- The second layer is the devices layer : Each device is represented with one image (the image you want)
- The last layer is the arrows which represent the links between devices. The links are filled with a color to represent the network load. The network load in percent is also on the link.

If you select a link with the mouse pointer, the rrd graph will be shown, with some usefull informations like device availability, etc.

I hope this tool will be usefull. I will post a real preview image next monday at last.

Best regards,

François.

Hello,

You want a name ? Cacti Mapping Module sounds good, no ? :D
I work on the tool today, and i did pretty good things :
- The tool can accept and resize transparent images for the background and the devices representation
- When a device is up, the name is in green, and when a device is down, the name is in red
- You can place the name of a device up or down the image of the device
Etc.

I will post a preview image tomorrow.
Thanks for your patience,

François.

Hi,

Thanks for your help. I will be very happy if you test my code with your cacti installation. Just send me your email in a PM, and I will give you the instructions.

The attachement is a screenshot of a map I created in the afternoon with my system. The devices in red are down, and the devices in green are up. The loads of the links are fake because the recuperation system in te RRAs is not finished.

I hope you will find this screenshot nice to look. Please, give me your opinion.

The first beta will be available tomorrow, I'm working very hard on the tool these days.

François.

This seems to be a very promising tool, fanu 8)

Do you already know how you will integrate it with Cacti ? Using a link in the Cacti menu ?! Via the Cacti interface ?

I'd be very interested to test it too.

Beau travail !
