RRDtool and PHP paths not found

Post by CHOOCH »

Hey guys,
I have a problem when I try to install cacti (after I followed the long instructions):

RRDTool Binary Path
The path to the rrdtool binary.
[ERROR: FILE NOT FOUND]
RRDTool Default Font Path
The path to the rrdtool default true type font for version 1.2 and above.
PHP Binary Path
The path to your PHP binary file (may require a php recompile to get this file).
[ERROR: FILE NOT FOUND]

What should I do? files are in the correct location.
I tried giving IIS users group modify & execute permissions.
It still doesn't work...
I' using PHP5 on Server 2008 R2. thanks for your help.

If the paths you specified truly do exist, then it still is a NTFS permission problem. Make sure the IUSR & IIS_USRS accounts have read/execute on: php.exe, rrdtool.exe, cmd.exe.

php.exe or php-win.exe?
I can't give read/execute premission on cmd.exe.
It's locked.

php.exe

cmd.exe permissions is the overall problem here. The IIS web user calls cmd.exe to then launch other things for Cacti.

So how do I fix the cmd permissions problem?

Sounds like you are either in a domain and don't have Domain Admin rights, or out of a domain and don't have Administrator rights. BSOD will have to "correct" answer though.

Ok, I fixed the permissions part by taking ownership over the file. but I still get the file not found error.

No spaces, forward slashes not back spaces.

It's still very likely a NTFS permission issue. Validate with http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?t=26165

Larry reluctantly bite's lip, (but says it anyway, while chucking), use Linux ;)

But seriously, I would use CentOS 5. However, in the mean time, you can use the SysInternals Filemon tool to watch what is happening.

Oh, and I do use Windows, for most things ;)

Except for email... I caught that iPad signature the other day. *sigh* I thought you had higher standards :P

Also, linux has its share of permission and other "issues".

CHOOCH:
What is the path you're using for rrdtool?
With filemon (or process monitor) open, all you need to do is click on the Settings -> Paths page. That'll invoke the code to try and check the paths. Either the path to rrdtool/php is invalid (I doubt) or the IUSR group doesn't have permissions to invoke cmd.exe, which in tern calls rrdtool.exe.

It's my daughters ;) However, I paid for it and get to play. It's about 2" too narrow for me. Thought the keyboard would allow me to type "normally", or at least at about 20-30 wpm. But it has not worked out that way.

RRDtool is located and configured in cacti as
C:/rrdtool/rrdtool.exe
I fixed the permission problems besides the one in the screenshot (I saw it in process monitor).
the one which wasn't fixed even though I corrected the permissions in the regedit is:
Image
Now I still get the same errors from the first post.
I need to mention that I didn't configure RRDTool Default Font Path.
Could this cause all the problem? and how i do it if i must?
