Host pinged well, but shown as down. Why?
I think it's a reason for graphs I added did not draw.

Looks like switching 'Downed Device Detection' from Ping to None solve the issue.

Are you using spine? If so, you must mark the binary to setuid root in order to use ICMP ping.

No, I don't use spine. Looks like a permission problem on raw sockets? (FreeBSD OS here).

Well, if you are using cmd.php, it has a function in lib/ping.php that actually uses the "ping" binary. If it comes up at the webUI, then I would think it would work during polling.

Can you please look into the script and see if you can find a problem with the ping syntax. Maybe that has something to do with it.

You can also run the following:

Code: Select all

php -q cmd.php <host_id> <host_id>
Run that in DEBUG and you will get more information on this problem. You will have to run as the CRON user though.

You need to run the poller as root for Unix ICMP ping AFAIK.

Did you try UDP or TCP Ping?

Not anymore. The poller user just need access to ping. If the environmentis closed to ping, then snmp pinf is best.
