memcached php script error

I am using mysql memcached cacti plugin for my project.

The server that has cacti installed is different from the one I have the memcached server installed.

when I test the datacollection for memcached
by running the following command in the server that has cacti installed:

php /var/lib/cacti/scripts/dumpMemcachedStats.php 10.10.0.1

It gives Class 'Memcache' not found in /var/lib/cacti/scripts/dumpMemcachedStats.php on line 8

The Memcache class is not there in the machine that has cacti.
Can anyone pl. help me with proper installation steps?
