Server 500 error

Post by Soop »

I'm stuck again. Now I'm getting a 500 server error:

Server Error
The following error occurred:

Code: Select all

The server closed the connection while reading the response. Contact your system administrator.

It's probably something to do with the Apache config, but I'm using apache 2, and I can't find anything about which files to edit to what.

I found another thread saying it could have been the file permissions, but that didn't end - and I've changed every index.php I could find to 755

Any ideas?

Ok, this is /var/log/apache2/error.log

[Wed Apr 21 15:48:24 2010] [notice] child pid 21723 exit signal Segmentation fault (11)
[Wed Apr 21 15:49:11 2010] [notice] child pid 22915 exit signal Segmentation fault (11)
[Wed Apr 21 15:55:41 2010] [notice] child pid 22949 exit signal Segmentation fault (11)
[Wed Apr 21 16:02:49 2010] [notice] child pid 22951 exit signal Segmentation fault (11)

It adds one of these each time I refresh the page.

Thanks Sirup

Is this everything in your error log?

Did you already find out where to configure apache2? What did you configure? How did you manage to get access to the cacti directory? e.g.: Did you created aliases? Have a look at http://www.cacti.net/downloads/docs/pdf/manual.pdf - pages 7-8

It's pretty mucgh everything in there; I had to type that stuff out.

I've followed the instructions, and I've used common sense to make all of those changes to the files I need to. But TBH, some are already there, and because it's out of date and is talking about previous software versions I'm not even sure how relevant it is :(

One of the other guides you gave me was better.

Hi,

Did you reinstall Apache yet? Linux, right?
Did your reinstall PHP5 and the Mod for Apache?
What happens if you run a PHP script manually on the cmd?

Create a file somewhere with that content in it:

Code: Select all

<?php
phpinfo();
?>
Save and run the file:

Code: Select all

php -q /path/to/phpfile.php
Any Output? Errors? Check /var/log/messages and /var/log/syslog, too (if available).

I've reinstalled php5 a few times. Just tried re-installing Apache and now it's saying:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_pconnect in usr/share/php/adodb/drivers/adodb-mysql.inc.php on line 382.

I thought I fixed this yesterday, but now I'm not sure.

I ran that php command, and it came out with a whole load of output, no errors.

in Var log messages, I see the segfaults (but the timing shows it only occurs when I request index.php from the cacti web directory).

I've tried the advice on this thread http://forums.cacti.net/about29799.html&highlight=

In the penultimate post, I've done what is suggested, but I don't know where I'm supposed to be looking for mysql.

Ok, I followed this thread: http://forums.cacti.net/about33083.html&highlight=

And restarted apache, and now I'm back to the server error at the beginning

Yes to all those.

Now I've just re-installed Cacti and I'm back to square 1.

I've tried to install if from the tar.gz, but I just can't figure it out.

I have no idea why this needs to be so difficult.

Thanks for your help with this all, but time has run out; I've spent 2 days trying to get this done, and I haven't even managed to get it installed. Time has run out.

I'll probably come back to it at some point, but hopefully by then the manual will be updated for php5 and apache2 :(
