changing traffic measurement vlaue

Post by ahmad »

hi all,
i just want to know if there is a way to change my windows cacti traffic measurement from 1000 M to 1024 M .i tried to change the base value but unfortunately it didnt work so please can anyone help me

• 534773760/(1000*2)=534M approximated value

But actual it must be divided on 1024

• 534773760/(2*1024)=510M actual value

thanks

Network traffic is measured in 1000s not 1024s as far as I can see.

Wikipedia and MRTG both agree...

However, if you want a non-standard value, it's in the Graph Template, as 'base value'. What happened when you changed that?
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.
(Let me know if you have UK DevOps or Network Ops opportunities, too!)

hi,

i dont want to change the seconds
when i look at my interface traffic i found it 534773760 bps
and on cacti graph the traffic appears as 534773760/(1000*2)=534M
but 1 kbps=1024 bps so i dont want that 1000 ,i want to change it to 1024
i changed the base value but it didnt affect the measurement value
thanks

1kbps=1000bps. Read the wikipedia link.

You can prove it to yourself from the switch too. Look at the snmpwalk output for the ifSpeed value of a 1Gbps port - it's 1000000000, not 1048576000:

IF-MIB::ifSpeed.1 = Gauge32: 1000000000
IF-MIB::ifDescr.1 = STRING: re0

(the GigE port on my server)[/b]
