Boost Memory tuning question

Post by ARC1450 »

I've upgraded to Boost 3.0, and thus far am quite happy with the lower poller times.

I do have a question for anyone willing to answer. . .

When altering the column width for poller_output and poller_output_boost, is the maximum record length you can safely use the one displayed by the Boost plugin?

Code: Select all

Boost Storage Statistics
Database Engine:	MEMORY
Current Boost Table Size:	168 MBytes
Avg Bytes/Record:	148 Bytes
Max Record Length:	112 Bytes
Max Allowed Boost Table Size:	770 MBytes
Estimated Maximum Records:	5456005 Records
For example, with that little snippet from the Boost plugin, can I safely set the varchar column width to, say, 116?

Just curious. I'm not a whiz with DBs, so any help would be appreciated.

I usually add 50 bytes to the value, just to be safe. Two years from now you will be pissing and moaning about some template you downloaded not working just to find out it exceeds the output column width by 1 byte ;)

Too late. I pissed and whined already when I was learning and chopped off some graphs.

So doing varchar (162) would probably be sufficient?
