Problem creating new template graphs, no RRDs generated

Post by atolibot »

I'll go over basically what I've done thus far, and why. I know im missing one step somewhere along the way (Ive ran into this same problem before, but cant remember exactly what I did to fix it, but it was within the cacti web interface). RRD files are not being created for the new template, I've ruled out permission problems and everything else I've been able to find searching on these forums and wiki.

So I ran into the common problem of needing 64 bit counters to graph over 100mbit traffic in 95th percentile. Easily solved by changing the data query associated with that graph template via,

Data Queries, In/Out Bits with 95th Percentile, changing data sources to the HC variants.

All good and done, fully working.

BUT, I still have some older switches that do not support 64 bit counters, which I also need to graph. So I go about creating another graph template for non HC (32 bit) counters.

Steps I've taken to do this,

1) Created an exact duplicate of the "Interface - Traffic (bits/sec,95th Percentile)" graph template, and naming it "Interface - Traffic (bits/sec,95th Percentile) 32bit". All items, and settings confirmed to be exactly the same. All performed through the web interface, Graph Templates, Add.

2) Associate the new template with a data query via, Data Queries, SNMP - Interface Statistics, Add, and duplicated the original settings for the "Interface - Traffic (bits/sec,95th Percentile)", simply selecting my new "Interface - Traffic (bits/sec,95th Percentile) 32bit" template and using the non HC data template for in/out sources.

(Ive confirmed everything above is identical to the built in 95th percentile graph settings outside counters and new template name, in the steps ive followed)

3) Attempted to then create graphs using the new graph templates, RRDs are never created. Debug levels showing nothing out of the ordinary. Can still create working new graphs with other templates before and after Ive gone through this process.

Any suggestions?

I'm actually having a similar issue - I've been needing to duplicate the "Interface - Traffic" data template, but no matter what I do, I can never get any data source associated with the new data template to generate any RRDs, or even show any information in the logs (even in the developer debug level). The related data source is never shows up in the poller cache (but does if it's set to the original data template), so it seems like Cacti is simply ignoring anything using newly created templates.

I ended up simply editting one of the existing templates into what I needed. Worked.

But would still love to know how to solve this.

I figured it out - in Data Queries->SNMP - Interface Statistics you need to create a new entry being a duplicate of In/Out Bits, and you can set your custom graph template there. You also need to make sure your custom data template has data source names that match the custom ones in there.
