Entirely depends on how many devices / data sources you intend on polling. A few devices with a few hundred data sources (DS), will work just fine with the min OS requirements... Check out users larger setup stats at http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?t=6206

In the lab I only got a hp proliant 360 g4, (estimated 99 $ at ebay), 32 bit 4 GB RAm.... with spine and boost I managed to get 5 MIN 189 Devices (200K Datasources ) mostly SNMP, only view script server scripts....
