Monitoring Windows system with Cacti installed on Linux

Post by maayanay »

Hi all,

I'm new in the forum and in the Cacti business.

I'm trying to figure out what is my options to monitor windows systems with Cacti.

1.can i use only SNMP?
I read that if Cacti is installed on Linux it cannot monitor windows systems via WMI is it true?

2.what other ways i have to monitor windows systems?

3. where can i found the more templates for managing windows systems via SNMP?

4. Can i monitor all the counters from perfmon? like exchange counters, disk I/O counters, SQL counters?

Thank you all in advanced.

See below

1. No - you can also use scripts. If you can script it, Cacti can graph it
2. WMI support works on Linux too - have a look in the "Scripts and Templates" section of this forum
3. You can ping hosts, monitor using scripts, WMI - SNMP is the fastest by far.
4. Look under "docs.cacti.net" under templates - there are several in here, as well as in the "Scripts and Templates" forum
5. You can monitor via perfmon, although if you are doing this from a linux host, you'll need to look at something like nsclient.
