SonicWall 3060

Post by walkdenhigh »

Hi,

We have a SonicWall PRO 3060 running the SonicOS Enhanced 4.0.0.2-51e. I have just installed and setup Cacti on a Ubuntu Karmic Koala (9.10) box and it is working fine and can SNMP to the monitor OK. I need a script and template that can monitor the network traffic going through the X1 (WAN) port of the SonicWall, so I can monitor the amount of internet traffic going in and out of the SonicWall. Does anybody know where I could get one?

Many thanks,

Ben

You might be able to get away with doing the SNMP - Interface Statistics if you just want traffic. I'm pretty sure it'll pick it up (but I may be wrong).

That's provided some progress, thank you. I've set the inbound and outbound data sources to Sonicwall - (snmp_oid) to get the actual graph to show instead of the white box with the red X. But only one interface seems to show (well only one graph anyway) and there are 2 connected to a network, and 6 altogether on the unit. Also, nothing happens on the graph at all, there's no activity, which suggests there is a problem with the data sources to me?

Excuse me if I'm wrong, I'm completely new to Cacti, and reasonably new to Linux too...

Thanks,

Ben

After numerous hours spent tinkering, I am now at this stage:

- SonicWall is added as a device and Cacti can SNMP to it OK.
- SonicWall - Traffic is added as a data source and the RRA path is set to "<path_rra>/sonicwall_traffic_in_10.rrd"
- SonicWall - Traffic graph is added and the inbound and outbound data source are both set to "SonicWall - Traffic (traffic_in)" and "SonicWall - Traffic (traffic_out)" respectively.

When loading the graph, all I get is the white square with the red X inside it, and I cannot figure out why this is.

Any help would be massively appreciated!

Set your logging level to HIGH and post the output. I don't think your graphs are being generated/updated for some reason.

We use Sonicwalls exclusively and have never had a problem using the built in Interface - Traffic Data Template with any of the associated Graph Templates.

After several re-installs (and using multiple different old laptops tucked away in the store cupboard) I've managed to get what I thought would work.

The graphs are now generated correctly and titled "SonicWall - Traffic - {External IP} - (X1 (WAN))" which was all populated automatically so I assume Cacti can talk to the SonicWall OK. The graphs have no data however, and are constantly just set to values of "nan".

Also, in Configuration>Settings>Poller I have reduced the poller interval to 10 seconds just for testing so I can check if it's working easier (rather than waiting 5 mins) but in Management>Data Sources the poller interval still shows at 5 minutes for the SonicWall Data Source.

Thanks
