ERROR: opening ...... : No such file or directory

Post by Guest »

Hello, all. I am having another issue here, maybe due to my own fault, who knows.

I keep getting the below error when trying to graph HDD space when using the ucd/net Available Disk Space template. I've seen an error such as this before, and I never did end up getting it resolved. I am unable to figure out what's wrong here.

Permissions are in check, and I do believe that they're fine. My cacti user does have permission to write to rra/ and log/, it's just that the file itself is not being created. Many other graphs are created without incident.

What is the cause of these errors?

Even though this is 0.8.6, I remember seeing it in 0.8.5, as well. I was very suprised when I didn't find many postings about this error, as I thought it was a fairly common question.

Thanks!

So no one has seen this before? Surely it has been an issue in the past for some of you.

Thanks

It would be helpfull if you would attach your logfile. Clear your logfile and then goto settings->general, turn logging to DEBUG for one polling cycle. Attach the logfile to this thread and then we can talk. When you simply talk about having problems and looking for help without supporting detail, you kind of look ???

Yeah, I appologize for that...

Ok, so here I go:

First I went into Graph Management, made sure that this was not already being graphed (deleted all data sources and graphs, yada yada), because I had been toying with it earlier. I disabled all of the hosts except for one to test with, to make looking through the log easier. Then I proceeded with the following:

Devices -> My Host -> Add Graph Template: Host MIB, Available Disk Space -> Add -> Save -> Save again, for good measure -> Create Graphs For This host -> Checkmark the box that I wanted to graph -> Create -> Create Again (ignoring Custom Data) -> Create Again for good measure.

While doing this, I did not notice any data placed into the debug log, which I figured was kindof odd. But then, I watched the log more, and this appeared:

GPRINT:b:LAST:" Current\:%8.2lf %s" \
GPRINT:b:AVERAGE:"Average\:%8.2lf %s" \
GPRINT:b:MAX:"Maximum\:%8.2lf %s\n"

This is a snip of the debug from Graph Management for that particular piece of data for that particular host:

RRDTool Says:

ERROR: opening '/var/www/virtual/cacti/rra/web01_myhost_net_hdd_total_56.rrd': No such file or directory

...which leaves me where I started.

Looking at cactid's log shows pretty much the same information. It just logs everything that it polls, and my newly added graph is not in that list.

Any help here would, again, be appreciated. Sorry I was not very informative with my origional posts, but I hope this last post helps.

Thanks again

I'm having a similar problem with mine.

It's a fresh install on a Slackware server.

I'm trying to create a graph for Ethernet Traffic, but it doesn't seem to work, I've created a new graph etc, just want bytes in and out with total bandwidth.

And it doesn't work, if I turn on the thing to debug graph, I get this.

ERROR: opening '/var/www/htdocs/cacti/rra/localhost_traffic_in_17.rrd': No such file or directory

No such file or directory, now it's the right place, but there isn't a .rrd file, and the poller.php thingo has run, if someone could give me a hand it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know much about Cacti, so if I have to get logs you'll have to explain where etc.

Finch -

To help the guys out, would you mind repeating the process that I did, and post the debug here? Just to give them some more data to work with.

Thanks

Ok You All,

Remember:

1) Polling is accomplished using poller.php NOT cmd.php or cactid
2) If you leave logging at DEBUG while using the Web, lot's of things get added to the log. You should always leave at LOW or NONE unless you are having problems
3) Once you create a DS/Graph from a template, it doesn't actually exist until you poll it twice.
4) To use the ucd Unix disk, you must have Net-SNMP demon installed on the system you are polling.

Suggestions are, verify the above. Clear the log file, then poll for a cycle at LOW, and then poll again with logging to DEBUG and post your log file(s).

I am very clear on how caciti actually polls the devices, so I hope that rant does not apply to me.

I do understand what debug is, and I have expectations as to what kind of information cacti would print in the log using the debug level - turns out, my expectations were right. So again, I'm quite confident that I am doing the right thing when it comes to that.

I do understand and have discovered through my own experience that it does take two polls until the data is actually displayed in a graph form. I have no problem understanding that. I do have a problem understanding why the graphs for this particular kind of graph are not created.

net-snmpd is running on the system that I am polling. IIRC, ucd-snmpd is crap, which is why not many people use it anyway.

You act as if this question has been asked a million times. My research through the forums shows that, well, it has - but it has never been answered. Everyone follows up with their posts stating that they just re-installed or upgraded whenever this happened. I really don't *want* to do this. :)

The below log sniplet is from later today. Mind you, the graphs are still running in debug mode. I really don't care about what kind of resources this eats up, this testing system is made for just that - testing. The first snip is logging at low:

09/14/2004 12:40:07 PM - SYSTEM STATS: Time: 6.1256 s, Method: cactid, Processes: 1, Threads: 1, Hosts: 6, Hosts/Process: 6

The second is logging at debug, for that particular host. Note, in both examples, the lack of anything relating to a disk usage even attempting to be created. This is what concerns me. Not on how to actually use cacti, but on why this graph is not created in the first place :) So basically I just

09/14/2004 12:45:02 PM - CACTID: Poller[0] Host[3] RECACHE: Processing 2 items in the auto reindex cache for 'web01.myhost.net'

Again, I appreciate the time that you're spending on this. If there's any more information that you would like, please let me know. I'd be happy to help work on this with you.

Dant,

Not intended to be a rant, just know that serveral others will read the post and many have missed the poller.php information.

Question: Does the poller cache include the DS information for the disks? My expectation is that it does not.
Question: Does the UI contain the host partition information from the "Create Graphs" interface?

Thanks,

No, I know you don't mean to rant. I understand that this is frustrating for you, as well.

No, the poller cache does not contain data source information for the disks.

I was not prompted for any additional disk information in the User Interface under the "Create Graphs" interface.

Thanks

After review of the data that I had posted above, do you have any suggestions? I (and I'm sure some others) eagerly await.

Thanks!

Dant -

We have had so many platform specific issues with PHP versions and RRDTool that we have decided to revert to the former method of running the RRDTool until such time that PHP matures a bit more in the areas we have focused. We are also considering requiring specific versions of PHP in the future to make the development cycle a little easier on our respective lives.

Therefore, the 9/28/04 pre-release of 0.8.6a has the old version of RRD processing utilizing a popen instead of proc_open. Ian hopes to release if there are no additional bugs reported before the end of the week.

Is there anything that I can do to help test this, to aid in the development process?

I am running the 0.8.6 release.

Thanks
