Graphs NOT Updating and Gui Not Resolving Host Names

Post by cele »

Bit of a strange one.

I am trying to configure cacti on "Fedora". Having to issues.

If I add a host through the GUI I will give an SNMP error when using a hostname, yet if an IP is used it is ok.

I have done this from the box as root and run an snmpwalk using hostname and is ok. So I am assuming it is a permissions problem.

The other thing not right is either the Server is not polling or the rrdtool is not graphing even on a itself (localhost)

I have used cacti in the past and had it all working well but I also run Nagios on the same box.

Any ideas will be much appreciated.

Well, when you ping the host from the command line by hostname does it work. My expectation is not. You need to setup resolv.conf to add DNS servers and you should also enable name cache daemon to reduce DNS load when polling hosts. You can do that or setup a host file.

For those wondering, I'm still here, but lost in the shadows. Yearning for less bugs. Who want's a Cacti 1.3/2.0? Streams anyone?
