Mactrack and Trunk Ports for VMWare

Post by bigchoice »

Does anyone know how i can get mactrack to discovery macs on trunk ports which connect to VMWare servers? i saw a post earlier where someone requested it. I am assuming i am not the only person that has this problem as Vmware is very popular.

Thanks

It's something I plan on considering for MacTrack 2.0 that is currently in development.

This feature also would be very helpful for us. Is implemented in Mactrack2.0 svn ?

This is a pretty tricky fix. I guess we need to find an approach first. Suggestions would be welcome.

For our part enough to make certain ports "trunk" so that they acquire the addresses, something like the option of "Ports to Ignore" but backwards

Well the issue for me is that I detect them as trunk ports and therefore do not obtain the MAC Addresses. So, we would need either an "Include" ports, as you mentioned, or something like I implemented for Juniper yesterday that identifies the DualMode ports by OID.

Look at the latest commit for the juniper poller that I made over the weekend and see if you can draw a correlation with your equipment. You are my researcher in this case.

Sorry for my poor English but I'm not sure I understood.

What is exactly what you asked me to do?

I try using JEX_switch_ports as MAC Address Scanning Function:

Code: Select all

DEBUG: SQL: UPDATE mac_track_devices SET ports_total='0',device_type_id='54',scan_type = '2',vlans_total='-1',ports_active='0',ports_trunk='0',macs_active='0',snmp_readstring='eepl02',snmp_sysName='BC_DONOSTI_SW02',snmp_sysLocation='',snmp_sysContact='',snmp_sysObjectID='.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1000',snmp_sysDescr='Cisco IOS Software, CBS31X0 Software (CBS31X0-UNIVERSAL-M), Version 12.2(46)SE, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2) Copyright (c) 1986-2008 by Cisco Systems, Inc. Compiled Thu 21-Aug-08 12:53 by nachen',snmp_sysUptime='434858910',snmp_status='3',last_runmessage='Data collection completed ok. No active devices on this network device.',last_rundate='2009-11-05 15:35:09',last_runduration='5.9575' WHERE device_id ='46'

This is what you asked?

No there is a CLI script that I need you to run in debug mode and send the output back. I think you may need to just spend some time woth the tool for a while so that you can better understand.

Hi,

as I know so fare mactrack now does not support MACs on trunks (.1q-ports). You said that version2 will support this, but which sub-version :-) ?

We need this feature to count the servers in our network agains the db of the customer.
