Graph has no data for localhost

Post by WLM »

I installed Cacti using Debian (packages) on Lenny.

Then, followed all instructions. Then changed the username that runs the web-server and chown the cacti and rrd folders to the username I am using and used to run the web-server.

Then the rrdtool has a graph after the cron run, unfortunately there where no data?

Any ideas why?

I am running a Debian Lenny installation. What does the error exactly means? Does it relate why I am not getting a graph?

Found this...

root:/var/lib/cacti/rra$ rrdtool info localhost_hdd_free_10.rrd
filename = "localhost_hdd_free_10.rrd"
rrd_version = "0003"
step = 300
last_update = 1256585341
ds[hdd_free].type = "GAUGE"
ds[hdd_free].minimal_heartbeat = 600
ds[hdd_free].min = 0.0000000000e+00
ds[hdd_free].max = NaN

Is set to NaN, tried to experiment and changed to:

ds[hdd_free].max = 1.0000000000e+02

The error suggests, that you do not run the poller from crontab.
Changing the MAX value is in general a good move. But NaN does represent "no MAX at all" in this case, so I suppose that this was not a problem. Indeed, setting it to 100 (10 E+2) generally will CAUSE problems

Aha! Thanks. You prompted me to check somewhere else and I got things working.

I had setup the cronjob to run via the crontab for the cactiuser, rather than specifying it in /etc/crontab

I changed this, and voila - graphing now seems to be working on my localhost.
