QuickTree - a shopping basket for graphs (0.2 released)

Post by Howie »

I've had this hanging around half-finished for a long time - I decided to finish it off and package it up...

Quite often while looking at an issue, you find yourself switching between a small set of graphs that relate to the problem, but not necessarily to the same device - the server load, the NAS load, and the switch ports for both, for example. QuickTree is a 'shopping basket' for graphs - click the '+' icon next to a graph and it's added to the QuickTree page. You can collect graphs from across your Cacti install very quickly. If it turns out that the set of graphs will be useful in the future too, you can save them as a normal Cacti graph tree, provided that you have permissions to do so.

Each user (with QuickTree permssions) gets their own QuickTree.

Install using the Plugin Architecture 2.x Plugin Management screen. Then enter the User Management page and give the required users access to it. A green '+' icon should appear next to graphs on the 'single graph' viewing page (not in preview or list view - the hook doesn't exist to add one there).

Known Issue: the way Cacti caches Graph Trees means that you might need to switch to another graph tree before the newly-created one appears in your list. This is true for Cacti-created trees too, so it seems to just be how it is.

Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.
(Let me know if you have UK DevOps or Network Ops opportunities, too!)

great plugin - thanks!
just one question - could you allow adding a tree as a subtree of another tree and not to root (when saving graphs to Graph Tree)?

Yes, probably. I'll take a look - I don't actually use graph trees that much myself. I'm pretty sure it's just a case of picking an existing tree ID though.

I really like this plugin, I've just installed it, I think it will be really useful :)

two things:
- the delete.png icon is missing from the package
- it would be great to have the time frame controls within the quicktree page

Here's the one that should have been in the zip. I guess it depends on if you like add and remove to match, or look clearly different. :-)

I'm going to try and get the 'add to existing tree' going, then I'll make a 0.2, with the icon in too

I love this plugin - is it possible to switch off the tab at the top, but still have the plugin show up in the console list ?

Very useful for ad-hoc demos etc...:)

Sure. Where should it appear? Under Utilities?

I just installed this plugin (and the additional delete icon). Works great and really handy. Thanks.

Howie - any reason its not listed on the docs.cacti.net user plugins page?

No - just can't work up the enthusiasm for figuring out the format again.

Again, great work!

I installed it just after release and added myself the missing icon. My boss likes this plugin too ;)
