F5 LTM no Virtual Server graphs

Post by julian924s »

Hi - hoping someone can help me on the above please. Cacti server details are:
Cacti Version - 0.8.7d
Plugin Architecture - 2.4
Poller Type - Cactid v
Server Info - Linux 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5
Web Server - Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS)
PHP - 5.1.6
PHP Extensions - libxml, xml, wddx, tokenizer, sysvshm, sysvsem, sysvmsg, standard, SimpleXML, sockets, SPL, shmop, session, Reflection, pspell, posix, mime_magic, iconv, hash, gmp, gettext, ftp, exif, date, curl, ctype, calendar, bz2, zlib, pcre, openssl, apache2handler, dbase, gd, memcache, mssql, mysql, mysqli, PDO, pdo_mysql, pdo_sqlite, snmp
MySQL - 5.0.77-log
RRDTool - 1.3.8
SNMP - 5.3.2.2
Plugins
  • Global Plugin Settings (settings - v0.5)
    Host Info (hostinfo - v0.2)
    Device Monitoring (monitor - v0.8.2)
    Syslog Monitoring (syslog - v0.5.2)
    Network Tools (tools - v0.3)
    NTop Viewer (ntop - v0.1)
PHP Network Weathermap (weathermap - v0.96a)
    Thresholds (thold - v0.3.9)
RRD File Cleaner (RRD Cleaner - v0.38)

I'm trying to graph various data from an F5 LTM device, BUT whenever I try to add "F5 BigIP - VS Statistics" Data Query it returns 0 Items, 0 Rows. If I run the Data Query in debug mode all I see is:

+ Running data query [16].
+ Found type = '3' [snmp query].
+ Found data query XML file at '/var/www/cacti/resource/snmp_queries/f5_bigip_vs.xml'
+ XML file parsed ok.
+ Executing SNMP walk for list of indexes @ '.1.3.6.1.4.1.3375.2.2.10.2.3.1.1'
+ No SNMP data returned
+ Found data query XML file at '/var/www/cacti/resource/snmp_queries/f5_bigip_vs.xml'
+ Found data query XML file at '/var/www/cacti/resource/snmp_queries/f5_bigip_vs.xml'
+ Found data query XML file at '/var/www/cacti/resource/snmp_queries/f5_bigip_vs.xml'

The "No SNMP data returned" line looks like an issue but not sure what.

There are a number of revisions of templates for / xml files for F5 LTM's - 4 in total and I've tried them all with the same result. What's strange is if I use the OID from the query with snmpwalk I do see all the Virtual Server details returned.

If anyone has seen this before or any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Julian.

Have you placed your Cacti server in the allowed list on the F5 devices for SNMP? Almost sounds like you can't do a snmpwalk, did you try to do an snmp walk manually from the Cacti server using that OID?

Yep - I can snmpwalk the F5 either locally or from the Cacti server fine - using the OID taken from the VS xml file gives me the output I'd expect to see. It's just when I try to add the Data Query via the Cacti GUI it returns 0 rows every time.

Some of the other graphs do return results, such as the interface stats, or TMM usage.

Thanks - J.

That is very odd - no idea what is causing the issue then.

Here are the files that I have been using...

Place the "f5_bigip_vs.xml" file in the following location:
<path_cacti>/resource/snmp_queries/

Import the file "cacti_data_query_f5_bigip_-_vs_statistics.xml" via the Cacti GUI.

Then try using that with your F5 devices.

You could also change your logging level to "everything" in Cacti, then you could watch and see what your getting back in regards to the VS Statistics. That has been very helpful for me before when I have had odd issues.
