CPU Usage of cacti server most time near by 100 percent

Post by alex85 »

Hello together,

at first some informations about our environment.

Catci Server: Windows 2003 Server Std. SP2
Monitoring cacti: about 100 Servers
Poller: cmd.php (rrdtool version 1.2.30)
Polling Interval: 5 minutes

Now we have two problems:

1. The most time the CPU usage of the cacti server is near 100 percent.
One process of the rrdtool "rrdtool.exe" alone needs 25 percent per instance.

2. In some graphics there are gaps for around one hour.

Could you help us?

Thank you for help.
Best regards Alex

1) yes, rrdtool consumes a lot of cpu when generating graphs. One needs a fast/modern cpu to display the graphs. If you installed Boost and used its image cache features, it could help to lessen the load.

2) read through http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?t=11747 for debugging tips.
