How to import RRds?

Post by barichon21 »

Hello guys,

Well, I'm new in this forum and simply in Cacti community...
I wondering if it's possible to import mrtg rrds in Cacti ?

I'm running Cacti 0.8.7b and found this thread:

Is it still a functional way to do it ? or is there other solutions ?

Thanks by advance for your help

:)

Unfortunately, there is no automated function about your issue.

You may have two choices.
1) import MRTG rrdfiles to Cacti manually
2) configure Cacti to treat rrdfiles which is updated by MRTG.

1) import MRTG rrdfiles to Cacti manually

I think this method is more elegant way.
But it will require a lot of investigation and manual work.

If your environment is small (small number of devices and graph types),
this method becomes choices that can be selected.

2) configure Cacti to be able to show rrdfiles which is updated by MRTG
You may configure Cacti to treat "Externally Updated RRDs" described here.

These command line scripts can't IMPORT your historical data stored at current rrd file by MRTG.
So if you could accept to lose all historical data and/or costomised rra definition, It will be able to become the selectable choice.
but it is not import but recreate, I think.
