Boost Install on Windows - Trouble
Hi Folks...
at first i want to say Hello and Thanx to all Users in this Forum.
I use Cacti since about two Years for Monitoring Networks at our Customers.
Each time, when i had a Problem, i used the Search on this Site and found a good Help.
So THANXXXXX to ALL
But now i am in a little Trouble, where i couldn´t find any Help, so i registered myself and want to ask you all (hope my English is good enough )
I use one Cacti (0.8.7e) on Windows with about 200 Hosts (growing) and 1 Min. Polling. Plugins are the PA 2.2, Spine 0.8.7e, Monitor, Syslog, Thold, Uptime,...
It´s nearly not possible to update all RRD during one Poll, so i want to use Boost, but after the Install, it doesnt work correct.
The "On demand Update" seems to run, but the Update Process-Poller don´t run. Is there any Manual else for install on Windows ??? I did all Steps from the Readme, exept the Tasks for Unix.
Please can you give me any way to find out, whats wrong???

Cacti1: Suse 11 - 0.8.7e - 800 Hosts
Cacti2: WinXP - 0.8.7e - 200 Hosts
Cacti2: WinXP - 0.8.7e - 200 Hosts
Cacti 0.8.7e should be using PIA 2.5. There are also some patches for cacti to install.

So, i did the Update to PIA 2.5, but same Problem.
The Boost Update Service is startet an enabled, Telnet Status okay, but Boost Stauts says "never run".
Can anyone help me, please?
Who did an Install on Windows? Can you tell it Step by Step????

Never actually had the need to use Boost on Windows... but first thing, have you read the readme which came with Boost? it's in it's plugin directory. Have you scheduled boost to run in settings? Have you installed the settings plugin?

Settings Plugin is installed.
What i did to install:
1. Import the boost_sql_memory.sql
2. Copy the Boost Files to ../plugins/boost
3. Create a Directory for image cache
4. Go to Plugin Management > install > enable Boost
5. Go to Settings / Boost enable all three Features
The on Demand Updates seems to run and Imagecacching also.
But whats with the scheduled Update for updating all RRDs???
Which kind of Service is needed?
In the Readme Point 6 explain only for Linux, there is only a hint for Windows "On Windows, you should create a service. "

So long as Apache/IIS has RW to the RRDfiles, you don't need to run the service. That is an advanced configuration best left for Linux/UNIX type systems. It can be made to run on Windows, but with Windows sockets library is DEFICIENT for multiple reasons and will likely cause issues that can simply be avoided by using Linux, or simply providing the Web Server RW to the RRDfiles.
If you get into a situation where multiple web servers required to address user demand, you would benefit from a Boost Server processes, with my prior comment being taken into account.

Force your boost updates with "php -q poller_boost.php --force" this way you can see first hand what is failing.

We would have to do something online to fix this problem. It's hard to translate.
