[SOLVED] Graphs only show 4 days of history

Post by 9Nails »

Can someone point me in the right direction? I'm having a problem with my Cacti - new install based from CactiEZ on Cent OS Linux. The Localhost graphs work fine and have a fair bit of history to their graph age. But after importing some templates and building new graphs for my servers and routers I'm finding that my graphs only have about 4 days of history. After that the graphs are emptied. (Except for the localhost graphs, which seem to be working fine.)

My poller type is Spine.
I've set the poller interval to every 1 minute.
The poller Cron is set for 5 minutes.

My data templates are setup with a step of 60.
And a heartbeat of 120.

My RRA's are defined for:

Hourly (1 Minute Average) 1 10080 14400 Delete
Daily (5 Minute Average) 1 25920 86400 Delete
Weekly (30 Minute Average) 6 9000 604800 Delete
Monthly (2 Hour Average) 24 2250 2592000 Delete

My poller type is Spine.
I've set the poller interval to every 1 minute.
The poller Cron is set for 5 minutes.
If you set interval to every 1 minute, your poller cron must be set to 1 minute.

Or 5 - 5, as you want, but not a mix of both !!!

I think I came to that from a post by Tekbot, http://forums.cacti.net/post-116403.html#116403

All my graphs are working for 1 minute polling. And I wish to keep them as such. So, the thinking is that this is fixed now in 8.7e and I should have my interval : cron set to 1 : 1? I'll give it a try!

This didn't help. My graphs are the same as before. Here's a little picture of two graphs for the same device. One graph (the lower) has graph data for the past 6 weeks. Which is up to the point of installation. The top graph only has a few days of data.

From my lack of understanding these two graphs look the same, except I can't figure out why one will have a nice history and the other is truncated. What causes this?

You should start analyzing this by checking "rrdtool info" of both rrd files

I bet you've seen this before. So you probably know that I'm going to ask if there is an easy way to recreate all my failed graphs using new RRA settings.

What I'm guessing is that the early graphs which were created in CactiEZ work fine. Then I updated my version and broke it. The old graphs have more rows or data points per row than the newer graphs. So I need to figure out what and where the values were changed, put them back and make my RRD's over again, right?

This is indeed possible and very easy. Simply delete any file you want to have recreated. Cacti will recreate it at next polling event using the current settings.

My Data Templates weren't configured correctly. They were configured with all the Associates RRA's as selected (Hourly, Daily, Weekly Monthly, Yearly), and with a step of 60 and a heartbeat of 120. My Poller was set to a 1 minute cron and interval.

After comparing to a fresh install of Cacti EZ (my base that I upgraded from) I changed the Data Template Associated RRA's to DEselect the "Hourly (1 minute average)", all other Associated RRA's were selected, then set the step back to 300 with a heartbeat of 600. I had noticed some graphs with the settings described above, and that had confused me. Apparently, my interface traffic is setup with the settings described in the first paragraph, and all other graphs were not.

After correcting all my templates I had to delete my graphs then create new graphs. (I left the devices, and only removed the graphs.) After building new graphs, I'm able to see 1 week+ of data now. I'll let this run for a while, but it appears to be fixed.

your suggestion is very good. so based on the solutions, delete the rrd file for corresponding graph( which has a problem) is enough? as the developer response earlier?seems easy solution.
or the graph should be delete from cacti graph management and recreate as new graph?

Thanks.
