Trying to get free disk space on XP with SNMP

Post by ZystemsK »

Hi all,

I must say, Cacti is quite a fantastic program, though I am having some trouble with it. I am trying to configure it to show us, and eventually alert us, when the disk space on XP/Server 2003 machines reaches a certain limit. I read through several threads on this and all of the suggestions don't work.

On my XP machine I have Net-SMNP installed and the Win SNMP disabled. In my snmpd.conf file I have:

Code: Select all

rocommunity public
includeAllDisks
When I run the following command:

Code: Select all

snmpwalk -v 2c -c public localhost dsktable
I get:
UCD-SNMP-MIB::dskTable = No Such Object available on this agent at this OID

I get the same error when trying to use INFORMANT-STD::lDiskPercentFreeSpace.

Any ideas? This is really bothering me, I'm usually good at this stuff.

I looked at the snmpd.log and see this:

Code: Select all

C:/usr/etc/snmp/snmpd.conf: line 2: Error: Blank line following includeAllDisks token.
net-snmp: 1 error(s) in config file(s)
C:/usr/etc/snmp/snmpd.conf: line 2: Error: Blank line following includeAllDisks token.
net-snmp: 1 error(s) in config file(s)
NET-SNMP version 5.4.1
In that file, includeAllDisks is the last line, there is no blank line after it. I made one and I still get the same error.

I found some information that stated includeAllDisks needs to be formatted like:
includeAllDisks MINPERCENT%

With that in mind, I did the following:
includeAllDisks 100%

When I restart the Net-SNMP service, I get the following in the log:
C:/usr/etc/snmp/snmpd.conf: line 2: Warning: Unknown token: includeAllDisks.
NET-SNMP version 5.4.1

I have no idea what it could be now.

I did read that, but it didn't help. It's for Unix, not Windows, and my configuration matches theirs. I have a feeling the 'includeAllDisks' is not available in the Windows binary.

Was anyone successful in getting free disk space reports with SNMP from Windows machines?

Then please see net-snmp site. They may have changed the config commands

I've used the exact same configuration on a Linux machine and it works fine. I have a feeling it's the Windows version of Net-SNMP. I'll research and report back.

Any reason why you're not using the microsoft snmp agent?

I figured Net-SNMP would be more robust. I didn't see any Windows SNMP information for gathering hard drive statistics.

Thats standard and should be there. Increase the snmp timeout, as that part of the MS agent is slow to respond.
