SNMP error

Post by bmccall »

I'll throw out the important info first ;-)
Version information: new install
cacti-0.8.7e
net-snmp-5.4.2.1_5
php5-snmp-5.2.10
apache-2.2.11_7
mysql-server-5.1.36
on 7.2-RELEASE FreeBSD.

The problem I am experiencing is snmp related. When adding a cisco device (2950 catalyst specifically.. and the first snmp device of this install) I simply receive 'SNMP error' on the cacti page. This occurs with both version 1 and 2c. I have ruled out network connectivity with snmp debugging on the switch. I can see the frames get to the switch from my cacti box...

11w2d: SNMP: Packet received via UDP from 192.168.x.x on Vlan1
11w2d: SNMP: Packet received via UDP from 192.168.x.x on Vlan1
#

however, I receive no data in return. Running snmpwalk as user 'cacti' returns results as reflected from the switch and from snmpwalk

/usr/sbin/cron[1095]: (cacti) CMD (/usr/local/bin/snmpwalk -v 2c -c mystring 172.16.x.x > /usr/home/cacti/snmp

11w2d: SNMP: Packet sent via UDP to 192.168.x.x
11w2d: SNMP: Packet received via UDP from 192.168.x.x on Vlan1
11w2d: SNMP: Get-next request, reqid 1247279359, errstat 0, erridx 0

User 'cacti' can run snmpget; however, cactis web int can not retrieve snmp data. This is most likely a permissions problem in the architecture of cacti that I am unfamiliar with. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have even gone as far as to make deinstall on php5 and cacti and reinstall with the same results.

Makes me wonder if you have a read only user or read only group defined on the piece of equipment you're trying to walk.

I am querying 3k switches/ routers using a RO community without issue.

I had a few issues starting out where I had some bad copy/paste when adding devices.

Are you manually typing the community in or pasting from the switch config?
