PIA 2.5 and cacti 0.8.7e not showing PIA options

Hi, this is my first time installing PIA and I must say its been a pain. I have at last got the patch to go in with no errors, then edited the global.php url path setting. I load up cacti in firefox all seams well. but there are no options for the PIA anywhere to be seen. In the small read me file that comes with PIA 2.5 is mentions I must add a plugin to $plugins. So my questions are these.

1. What should I put in $plugins? and how should it be added.
2. will adding to $plugins make the PIA options appear, or is there a step I have missed somwhere.

Thanks for your help. 3 days and about to give up. Please help.

I just had to give admin the right to view the plugins DOH!
