Help installing on windows

Post by GonzoUK »

Hi,

I have downloaded the following:

Cacti
Spine
MySQL - installed c:\program files\mysql
PHP - installed c:\php
RRDTool
net-snmp - installed c:\net-snmp

Now I've confused where to install Cacti, Spine, RRDTool. I creates a C:\Cacti folder and unzipped them and they have gone into their own folder in C:\cacti for example:

c:\cacti\
\cacti-0.8.7e
\cacti-spine-0.8.7e-win32
\http%3a%2f%2fwww.goh4.com%2fcygwin%2f
\rrdtool-1.2.30-bin-w32

Is the above correct? Or should they all be in one folder?

Is there some sort of VM server version where does all the work too?

Your instructions are so much better. On the PHP install you mention
At the Web Server page, select IIS ISAPI Module and click Next.

I only see IIS FastCGI or IIS CGI and many others like NSAPI, what should I choose?

Blarg, damn PHP 5.2.10 and 5.3.x have dropped ISAPI support. I need to update the documentation. Use fastcgi.

Cywgin isn't really needed anymore, so I wouldn't recommend you install it. As for the system path, thats in the environment variables section in the system control panel...

None. Well eventually you'll want to switch to Spine, but NOT before your install is functional.

cygwin is only needed for spine and old rrdtool versions.

I tried your Cacti installer package in the end, but http://127.0.0.1/cacti/index.php desplays nothing. I running it on WinXP Pro. Under schedule task I noticed that the task won't start either. What is the next step to look at?

Thanks

Well as far as I know I have, can you think of anything? I had IIS installed before I ran the cacti complete package. It has installed php, mysql, cacti directories in IIS, the schedule task etc.

You rebooted the server after the cacti install?
IIS returning a 500? If so, follow the instructions in the post-install.

After running the windows updates (need 64!) and rebooting I now get a username and password screen. I have tried admin for the username and password but it won't let me in.

That is not the password for the cacti windows install. The last screen of the installer and the post-install document contains all the passwords. I'm thinking you really haven't read it at all...

You were right I didn't take note of that last screen on the install, I'm in now.
