Holes in data and stopages over 700 Mbit/sec

Post by addlema »

http://calculus.noc.indiana.edu/cacti/g ... &type=tree

We are seeing wierd data holes.. It looks like the interface gets near to max and then zeros the value and plots nothing on the graph...

Does this have anything to do with the way RRD and Cacti handle data?

We are pretty stumped.. We dont have any other links that are this flooded to look at..

Help?

flooding down in tx

Post by egarnel »

just for kicks.
Can you pass other traffic over the link when it is saturated?
snmp is traffic too. If it can't pass up to the Cacti server, then obviously, cacti will no graph it

Are you performing any queueing on the interface?

IT has now gotten to other maps...

Cacti stops graphing when it goes above 700 Mbits/ second... We are seeing this on 10 gig and 1 gig links...

Has anyone else seen this?

We have multiple graphs this is affecting now.. And We are using 64 bit counters......

Here is a ten gig link where it is happening:

Help!!! PLease.. TheWitness whats going on? :)

Thanks!

100000000 is that the problem?

100000000 * 8 = 800Mb

try with one zero more in the templates : 1000000000

and update the rra files with the new max value (rrdtune)

Awesome!

Problem: I have about 500 rrds I need to change... I can get RRDtool tune * to work.. Any thoughts?

Also, if I change templates in cacti and update the RRD's I shouldnt have to recreate all 500 graphs right?

Okay I wrote a quick php script to do all the updating for me..

So this should work okay if I change the graph templates? Please tell me I wont have to wipe out and re-create every data source?

For 10Gb links the correct max value is 1250000000 so if you just add one 0 to your previous value you may be a bit short. Rrdtune will update your files without touching the data (but backup them before ;-) ).

I'm seeing this, as well, but my link is far less than 10GB, haha.

Any idea why this might be happening on my link, which would be considerably lower? The only thing that I could think of, based on what has been posted here about the 1G and 10G links, is that snmp is getting erroneous data which is far greater than what my max value is in Cacti (like 10000GB or something). I don't know.

Anyone?

Thanks
