spine-0.8.7d works great, no more coredumps :)
Thanks!
Just to anyone who is having issues with the presence of the ../etc/spine.conf file. Please note, if the spine.conf file is in the same directory as the spine binary, that spine.conf always wins.

Hi, is there a reason that the site still mentions spine 0.8.7c instead of spine 0.8.7d? When I wanted to download the Windows Executables it downloaded the Windows Source files: http://www.cacti.net/downloads/spine/pa ... 0.8.7c.zip. So when I looked in the forum I found this announcement. :)

Maybe it's a good idea to include a little readme with the Windows Executables, because I guess that the supplied spine.conf.dist must be edited and then renamed to spine.conf?

I want to try spine soon!

New Spine 0.8.7d performance issue

Post by kramsay »

Hi,

I downloaded the new spine to my new system that was using CMD.php . I only have a couple of rrd's as it is a test machine. Apart from building the software on my Red Hat machine I raised the threads count to 4. That's it.
However my polling time has increased from the sub 2 second mark to around 58secs with the new spine ..(':-?')

I am a bit confused as to where to look for the "issue".

Here's the relevant log output

Code: Select all

Am I missing a configuration step ? ('') Grateful for any pointers....

TheWitness, I tried this new version, but after compile it was not working, but the cmd.php was working fine.

After recompile it with the new util.c it become working.

Just for your information.

Good Morning,
I've installed spine 0.8.7d but I experience a problem. I initially reported it on the general help forum, but further testing led me to this thread.
Using Spine a my poller, I can't get continous graphs on a single one host, they work for a random amount of time, then stop, then start working again. In addition, I can't get CPU Usage to work.
The host experiencing this problem uses the same template used on different servers and I can get the OID values with a MIB browser.
Can please someone help me? I'm glad to help with debugging and tests as required, thanks in advance!

And :)

I ran spine in verbose mode, Gandalf suggested me to do it on a different thread. Quoting what I posted there:

Here is the output for the host with the problem:

This is a similar command launched for a working host with the OS, template and queries, I get the recache event, but not the "Spike Kill".

What is the snmp uptime of the device? Please provide the snmp output. In the mean time, change the Reindex method for the device to something beside "Uptime Goes Backward".

For those wondering, I'm still here, but lost in the shadows. Yearning for less bugs. Who want's a Cacti 1.3/2.0? Streams anyone?

Here is the output:

OID: .1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0
Value: 2250 hours 37 minutes 9 seconds

I'm not sure how to change the Reindex method, I attached a screenshot of my device.
Thanks

I mean, the CPU graph giving me troubles does not use the two associated data queries listed, do you want me to change them anyway?
Thanks!

This is what I am concerned about:
06/22/2009 10:48:50 AM - SPINE: Poller[0] Host[22] RECACHE: Processing 2 items in the auto reindex cache for 'myhostname'
06/22/2009 10:48:50 AM - SPINE: Poller[0] Host[22] ASSERT: '151176486' .lt. '0' failed. Recaching host 'myhostname', data query #1
06/22/2009 10:48:50 AM - SPINE: Poller[0] Host[22] NOTICE: Spike Kill in Effect for 'myhostname'
06/22/2009 10:48:50 AM - SPINE: Poller[0] Host[22] ASSERT: '151176486' .lt. '0' failed. Recaching host 'myhostname', data query #8
06/22/2009 10:48:50 AM - SPINE: Poller[0] Host[22] NOTICE: Spike Kill in Effect for 'myhostname'
This represents a reindex error. When a reindex method fails, currently the current poll for the host will be disgarded. So, if you fix this issue, graphs will start to work.

If host22 does not have any data queries. You have some invalid data in your database causing this. Can you please confirm.
