the opensuse 11.0 installation does not require a cacti user.

so did the "Check Basic Data Gathering" as root

snmpget -c very-secret -v 2c localhost .1.3.6.1.4.1.1
Timeout: No Response from localhost.

the snmp is running.

ps -ef | grep snmp
root 2761 1 0 22:43 ? 00:00:12 /usr/sbin/snmpd -r -A -LF d /var/log/net-snmpd.log -p /var/run/snmpd.pid -I -

so how could I test that snmpd works with cacti?

some infos:

So the cron job is running by root

mx:/ # cat /etc/cron.d/cacti
*/5 * * * * root php /usr/share/cacti/poller.php > /dev/null 2>&1

mx:/ # rpm -q php5
php5-5.2.9-0.1

That's bad, but not a cacti issue. You may find hints at 1st link of my sig; else see net-snmp-users mailing list. Unless you get that snmp issue solved, you won't see anything SNMP related in your cacti

solved

Post by asemen »

did solved the problem!

2 issues

1st
the cati.log was /var/log/cacti.log
instead of
/var/log/cacti/cacti.log

2nd
the traffic graphs did not create because the filds of
Inbound Data Source
and
Outbound Data Source where empty,
did aktivate add the netwok device.

now works fine
