i think i have found a few problems with cacti.
first time i setup cacti i added some servers and it all seemed to work fine, then i importet the compaq host template that i found on this board.
after i did that some graph items did't work.
the output from cmd.php doesn't include the snmp oid on the datasources that failed, but the oid is in the datasource.
so i suspected that the import of the host template was the cause, i deleted the mysql database and started from a clean database.
now i have recreated all the data manualy, but now there is other datasources that display the same problem with missing oids.
and this is with the included graph templates for for example "Host MIB - Processes" and "Host MIB - Logged in Users"
and they both worked with the old database.
here is a sample output from cmd.php:
-----------
snmp: hostname:161, dsname: users, oid: , value:
snmp: hostname:161, dsname: proc, oid: , value:
-----------
if i choose Utilities -> Clear poller cache, the output also shows missing oids
the second problem:
if i reboot a win2k server the Indexes on the network interfaces change, so that's why when i created the graph for the network interfaces i specified that it shoud use the hardware address instead of the default index field.
now that i reboot the server the output from cmd.php still indicates it's using the old index value, and that obviously doesn't work.
i woud have expected cacti to fix this by itself.
sample log:
------
snmp: server:161, dsname: traffic_in, oid: .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.524292, value:
snmp: server:161, dsname: traffic_out, oid: .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.16.524292, value:
------
