Qlogic Fibre Channel Switches via SNMP problem

Post by acwambolt »

I am having trouble monitoring the QLogic SANBox 5200 and 5202 Fibre Channel Switches using SNMP. Using the PDF reference guide I got the OID:
.1.3.6.1.3.94.1.8.1.4.X

When I attempt to iterate through this OID tree I get a different OID producing the correct results. The OID I get is:
.1.3.6.1.2.1.94.1.8.1.4.16.0.0.192.221.12.235.230.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.5

This OID also is different depending on which switch I query. I have attached an example picture for clarification. As you can see from this picture .129 and .130 are two different switches, however, are both the same model running the same firmware.

When I use either result in my monitoring program it is unable to get an appropreate value returned.

The devices should have their stuff Indexed so that's not a problem. consult the vendors MIB file for what the index(es) are. Then read in the documentation site how you would go about creating an SNMP XML script and templates.

Appears this device base OID is .1.3.6.1.2.1.94.1.8.1.4.16.0.0.192.221

I did consult the MIB file which displayed a different OID then the one I am currently receiving for the same value.

Then you should consult the vendor on why they do not match.

The reason for the strange OID's

Post by mlstier »

Since the Sanbox 5200's and 5600's are stackable, and the SNMP agent on one box will respond for all boxes, Qlogic has added the boxes WWN (WWP) number to the OID.

Convert your WWN/WWP numbers to decimal and you will see what I mean.

Thus some of the Sanbox true OID's are base + WWN + index.
