SOLVED: Which version of PIA for Cacti 0.8.7b

Post by tomer »

after reading trough the forum, i cant find an answer to my question. i setted up cacti on RHEL 5 using the yum installer, so mi cacti version insalled is 0.8.7b.

i then checked which version of the PIA would fit my needs and theres the point. Do i need the newest PIA or do i have to get the PIA for 0.8.7b ? On the cactiusers.org site i only can find a PIA named cacti-plugin-0.8.7d-PA-v2.4.zip.

since i don't want to mess up my installation i would be thankfull if sokmeone can tell me if which version of the PIA i have to use for cacti 0.8.7b.

thanks

Your kinda caught in between a rock and a hard place at this point. I usually don't keep older versions of the PA laying around. Since its difficult to support every version of Cacti out there, I find it prudent to only support the latest stable release. If someone is willing to risk bricking their cacti enough to install a patch, then they should be willing to upgrade to the newest version while they are at it.

Now, I explained the rock, the "hard place" is that I don't support patching RPM versions of Cacti. Why? Well the package maintainers have these queer notions that configuration files should all be in one big directory, and the same for libraries, etc... Not to mention how every distro out there moves everything to different locations, and will even stick libraries in a different folder if your running 64 bit. Why does this have anything to do with Cacti? I can't create a patch for files that I can't find, and I can't support every distro out there with 1 patch. Generally I also release files that are already patched to help get around this, but then it causes issues when the Cacti files themselves are modified by the RPM maintainer to point to the new location. So overriding the file, causes it to look for the libraries in the wrong (read as correct) spot, and Cacti no longer works.

Looking through my HD, I did find an old DIFF for 0.8.7b, so you can find it here
http://mirror.cactiusers.org/downloads/ ... -v2.1.diff
Once v0.8.8 is released, this will no longer be the headache for me that it currently is, so no worries.
