Call for BETA Testers
All,
Ian and I are seeking BETA testers for 0.8.6. The list of features is impressive and we would like to get as much testing done on this release before we let it on the street. Please send you e-mail address and contact information to me. I can be reached at larryjadams@comcast.net.
So that you know, the list of features to be tested in this release include, but are not limited to the following:
- Ability to Filter Devices/Data Souces/Graphs by Template or Simply Searching
- Syslog/Eventlog & Logfile Support
- Customizable Logging Levels
- View/Clear Logfile from UI
- Host/Up Down Event Logging and Notification via Syslog.
- Automatic Ping for Hosts (SNMP/UDP/ICMP are all supported in CMD.PHP only SNMP in Cactid today). Event logging for cmd.php only this release.
- Auto Reindexing - for hosts that have changing OID's.
- PHP Script Server - PHP Scripts now can fly!
- Poller Enable/Disable from the UI
- Configurable Poller Type (cmd.php/cactid) from UI
- Thread quantity control from UI
- Multiprocess cmd.php and CACTID from UI
- Configurable Host Up/Down Thresholds
- Cacti Zoom History
Planned in Upcomming Releases are also impressive.
Those features include:

Where to download a single file keeping all code of 0.8.6
Hello,
Is there a simple way to download a single file (tar, zip) keeping all the new code of 0.8.6 (even if it is in development) in order to have a preview of it ? Where can I get it ?
Thanks
Didier

With the exception of CACTID, I would agree. We are still working out the kinks with CACTID. More information to follow.

Re: Call for BETA Testers
Browsed through the 0.8.6 changelog and it looks very nice
I noticed this:
-feature: Added Eric Steffen's Bonsai patch which enables users to zoom a graph by dragging a box around the area of interest.
Are there any plans to include something like cactistoric where I can define start and endtime for a graph? For me this would be more useful than the bonsai patch, and nicer if it was included in the official distributions so I dont have to patch around with 3rd party releases.

Why dont u add e-mail notification when a given treshold value exceed??

Good news All, both are planned. I will be developing the Event Notification system and Ian will continue to improve the graphing. I had discussed the Event stuff with Ian for this release, but we held back on the feature set so we could have some time with or family and friends.

Great, threshold was also something I am missing in cacti. How will the event notification work? Will it be possible to do "if value X exceeds the limit Y times, mail will be sent, if it exceeds Y+3 times a different email will be sent" or "if value X exceeds first limit, send this mail, if it exceeds second limit send this mail"?TheWitness wrote:Good news All, both are planned. If you ask me, it's my hobby. If you ask my wife, it's my obsession. I do like the idea of multiple event levels. Consider it in the final design, which, by the way, is still drying on a napkin somewhere.

What is your planned schedule for 0.8.6 ?
What is your planned schedule 0.8.6 ?
===============================
Can you please remind to all what is your planned schedule for this release 0.8.6 ?? Any idea of a date ?
- Are you waiting your work on cactid be completed ?
- Are you waiting your work on "Event Notification system" be completed ?
- Are you working to a nice span time selector to each window of cacti to zoom several graphs at once ?
- What other important work remains ?
- If you are working on them when do you think they could be tested ?
For me it is not clear if you will try to integrate these features in the release 0.8.6 or not ?
Thanks
Didier

Didier,
We are close. Just yesterday, Ian instructed me to get your graph timespan incorporated into CVS. I will complete that activity this morning. Ian is also working a fairly significant bug with Daniel Powell relative to upgrade. We are very close though.
Per your comments:
- Event notification is a ways off 0.8.8+
- Yes. Will be done today.
- None for this release. Just bug testing and Ian is working one now. We have a compile problem for Cactid in Solaris to also resolve.
- In the next day or two.
Didier, how much have you tested 0.8.6? Is it stable for you? Please let me know.
Thanks again for your suggestion on the timespan thing. It is a great contribution. Are you interested in other contributions? I have a graph tree idea that is quite a good one, but I don't know what kind of time I will have in the next few months.

- Cactid has a problem with ICMP ping. However, we have a workaround in place. So that is not a show stopper.- Are you waiting your work on cactid be completed ?

Feature Request
Hi Guys,
I'm sure you have a full list of requests, but it would be nice to be able to import a list of devices instead of manually clicking in each one.
I am trying right now to install 300 new devices that all share the same snmp string but had to write a script to do insterts into mysql instead...
