Changing poller interval

Using 0.8.7d I want to start creating some 1 minute graphs. I have many existing 5minute graphs which I understand cannot be made into 1minute graphs. No problem here.

I did the following:

Change poller tab settings to 1minute (Poller interval and Cron interval)
Clear poller cache
Set cron to 1minute

No problem so far - all graphs still worked and reported as 5minute graphs by cacti.

Next, I try to create a new host with new graphs and expect this host to now be at one minute intervals. This was not the case - still 5minutes. What am I missing? I have read on the forums that there are still manual steps required to changed data sources etc? Is this process not automatic?
