[Solved]Alcatel Equipment SNMP Error
Hello,
I am polling an alcatel machine, i am able to do snmpwalk as attached files, but whenever i create it as a device on cacti, i recieve snmp error(attached), i think propbably because of the security level but i cant find it on cacti, can any one help.
Thanks,

1) you should change the host template to a snmp device or cisco switch. A lot of the linux templates won't work against a router.
2) Do any of the verbose queries, like Interface or processor return data? Post the results.
3) For testing, if you enable snmpv1/v2 on this device and Cacti -- then does everything work out? Briefly searching the forum, it appears another user had something similar with this problem.

First of all thanks for your help,
As a reply for your message kindly check my answers:
1-For the first point kindly check your PMs.
2-Already there is an snmp error, so all the graphs are broken.
3-Only SNMP v3 works, and only with a specific username, passphrase and security level, if i change any of them rather than the ones mentioned in the previous attachments the snmpwalk fails to return any data(Times out).
Thanks,

Thanks,
1) change the downtime detection to just snmp for now. Fix the snmp errror?
2) Since the commandline snmpwalk works (I assume from your cacti server?), it's a cacti issue we're dealing with.
3) How do you have [broken] graphs, for a device which has never worked with snmp? Cacti won't poll a downed device.
4) I don't use snmpv3 in my enviroment, so somewhat at a loss on how to properly troubleshoot its issues in Cacti...

1-I changed the down time detection to just SNMP but still there is SNMP error.
2-Do you know where i can specify the security level of the SNMP in cacti, as i think this is why there is SNMP error.
3-It say that this device is unknown.
4-Do you think creating data queries for this Machine with it's specic OIDs can solve this problem.
Thanks for your help.

You are right on that device page with those various SNMP settings. There afe a few other global snmp settings in cacti's setting page, but those don't deal really with the security. Instead more performance tweaks, which I suppose you could play around with instead.Alucard128 wrote:2-Do you know where i can specify the security level of the SNMP in cacti, as i think this is why there is SNMP error.
Just means cacti has never polled it since its always been down.Alucard128 wrote:3-It say that this device is unknown.
Nope, cacti does not poll down devices.Alucard128 wrote:4-Do you think creating data queries for this Machine with it's specic OIDs can solve this problem.
You're able to poll any other snmpv1/v2 devices? What about other snmpv3 devices with cacti?
I'm starting to run out of troubleshooting ideas, simply because I've never played around with snmpv3...

hmm weird reverse-quoting your replies...
Anyways, try changing the security level of that snmpv3 device to match Cacti, instead of the snmpwalk.
Also, it would help to try polling another different snmpv3 device, to help validate that snmpv3 polling works from Cacti.

I will try polling some other SNMPv3 devices, and will update you but in the mean while, can you please check below post that i found on the development of SNMPv3 in the cacti, and they are mentioing it should be available in 0.87 release, and i am using 0.87b release, so how come it is not showing as an option, so what do you think??

huh? The screenshot on your first post shows snmp version 3 selected.Alucard128 wrote:so how come it is not showing as an option, so what do you think??
Anyways, I seem to recall that snmpv3 only can be done when having the net-snmp TOOLS installed (dont install the snmp agent), since the PHP snmp module doesn't have snmpv3 support. Do you have the latest net-snmp tools installed and all properly set up in Cacti's paths?

I was talking about the security level option of the snmpv3 not the snmpv3 itself.BSOD2600 wrote:huh? The screenshot on your first post shows snmp version 3 selected.Alucard128 wrote:so how come it is not showing as an option, so what do you think??

I have installed the windows installer you have published in the forum containing:
-Cacti 0.8.7b
-Spine 0.8.7a
-Apache 2.2.10
-MySQL 5.0.67
-PHP 5.2.6
-Net-SNMP 5.4.2
-RRDTool 1.2.26
-GetIF 2.3.1
Thanks.
