Blank Screen after install

Post by ScottyLat »

Hi. I am a noob with Cacti, and I have tried installing it on both Ubuntu Linux and Windows XP. I like Ubunti a bit better, but the issue is occuring on my windows XP install.

I followed the steps from the "installing under windows" guide at the link:
http://www.cacti.net/downloads/docs/htm ... ndows.html

When I open "http://localhost/cacti" I get a blank screen.

I am using Windows XP SP3 with IIS 5.1.
Cacti version is .0.8.7c
Spine is same version
MySQL is the latest from the website
RRD tool is latest from website
Cygwin is latest from website
NET-SNMP is latest version from website
PHP is 5.x (latest version from website)

I am reading the forums about post install action items, but I do not even get a log in page for cacti, only a blank screen. I feel my settings in IIS or possibly between cacti and the database are issues causing what I am seeing. Any suggestions is appreciated, and if you need more information about my setup, please let me know.

thank you

So, I have been playing with my configuration, and tried following new setup instructions. This has been going ok, but now I see an issue.

When i run php -m in a command prompt, the three modules that are specifically needed to run are not found, the mysql, snmp, and sockets dll's are not found.

Where do I get these MIB's from to put in the php/extras/mibs directory?

The walkthrough I am now using: http://bsod2600.home.comcast.net/~bsod2 ... l#Patching

Thanks all

1) cacti 0.8.7d has been released. you should use that now

2) I ask for the specific versions you're using to help troubleshoot or spot issues. "latest from website" isn't helpful for me or other users looking over the thread.

3) Those missing PHP modules should've been installed along with PHP. Are they present in the \php\ext directory? Did you enable them in php.ini?

4) Consider using my windows installer instead.

BSOD2006...

In my second post, you can see the URL I am using is your website. I actually like your instructions better, you go into more detail and make it very easy to follow. Thank you for that.

I will find the new version of Cacti.

For the rest...

SPINE 0.8.7c
MYSQL 5.1.31-win32
Net-SNMP 5.4.2.1-1
PHP 5.2.8
RRDtool 1.2.30
CYGWIN - is only the setup, i dont know what version

Yes, I do see the .dll files under \PHP\ext. This is not the directory that I put under MIBDIRS. No where in the install guides do I see adding this directory to MIBDIRS, only the \PHP\extra\mibs. From your instructions, something is wrong with my MIBDIRS if I am getting the error I am receiving.

Thanks for the help.

When I mean setup, I mean this: http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?t=14946, not my installation guide ;).

During your manual install of php, on the Choose Item page, Under the Extension folder, did you select MySQL, SNMP, and Sockets to be installed?

The third bullet of the PHP install section, it states "Extract the contents of the PHP zip file. Move the \extras\mibs\ folder to C:\PHP\Extras\" You only downloaded the php msi file, right?

For the MIBDIRS variable, in the configuration php portion, did you follow step 3?

Oh, that installer. No, I want to learn how to do this, not have it done for me. :)

I did not get a php zip file. I will go look for it on the website, i was wondering about that.

Yes, I did step 3 in php setup. I added \php\extra\mibs to the MIBDIRS variable.

Thanks for the help, i will keep working at it.

Just wondering, have you seen this behavior before??? :D
