Using Cacti in JSF/JSP web based project

Hi,
I am new to Cacti.
I want to develop JSF web based project and also want to use Cacti in this application.

I want to know that is it necessary using PHP if we want to use cacti?
Can I use cacti with JSF? If yes how?

I appreciate if somebody could point me to the right documentation where I can begin reading.
