user templates and email addresses

I authenticate my Cacti against an LDAP server. When a new user authenticates, it creates a new user in the Cacti database based on a user template. However, the email address remains empty, as it is in the user template. It would be nice if Cacti/Thold could pull the email address of the user from the LDAP server and populate that field automatically.

Has anybody developed a patch to do this? Any suggestions as to the best place to modify Cacti/Thold? I can probably make the change myself, but I'm not overly familiar with the Cacti architecture, and since the email address field originates from a plugin, I'd rather modify the plugin code than the base Cacti code if possible.
