scripted addition of several hosts?

Post by Guest »

I am converting the machines (100+) I manage over to the cacti
interface. Each machine has 32 parameters that I monitor and generate
rrd files for (so cacti is not collecting data). Manually adding each
machine into cacti is not feasible, so I am wondering if someone can
suggest a framework to add several hosts into cacti via perl:DBI or
some other interface? Each rrd is named exactly alike varying only
by the directory in which they are stored:

/var/rrd/<hostname>/rrdfile.rrd

The title on each graph is exactly the same except for the hostname:

<hostname> TCP statistic
<hostname> CPU statistic

As far as I know the schema for cacti is not documented so I will need
some assistance building this interface. Ideally I would supply a list
of hostnames and the data source, graph, and graph hierarchy would
be defined in the mySQL database.

Furthermore, it was mentioned that in the future the graphs can be
created in such a way that the default view is not exploded. I can
imagine it is going to be quite slow generating 3200+ images. What
is the status on this feature?

Any ideas?

Look at the contribs section of this board. There's a Perl Script posted which might be of help.
