[solved] Changing SNMP community string stops graphing.

Post by johara »

Is there a limit on the length, or what characters can be used for an SNMP V1 community string with in Cacti? I have changed the snmp community string on a device as well as in Cacti, I then verified that Cacti is able to communicate by selecting Verbose Query under SNMP - Interface Statistics on the Device screen, I get a valid response, however graphing no longer updates for the host. I have changed the host back to the original SNMP community string on the device and in Cacti and the graphing resumes. I have also tested by changing the string to a different shorter string with only letters in the string and this works. I am attemtping to set the string to 14 characters in length and have several special characters in the string, specifically !,'%.

Operating System: Windows Server 2003 SP2
Webserver: IIS
Cacti: 0.8.7a using BSOD2006's installer, no changes made since installation.

Thanks

After changing the snmp community, clear your poller / snmp cache. Does the verbose query work then? If so, then so should cacti's normal queries.

Gave that a try and I was able to get the verbose query to respond with the correct information however the graphs still would not populate. Through a process of elimination I have found that it appears the apostrophe is the culprit. Once I remove that character from the SNMP string the graphs begin to populate, once it is reinserted the graphs no longer populate.
