Has anyone written a step by step for creating a new xml file for a template? How can I determine the necessary OID's to use? Everything I read on SNMP is just architecture (NMS's, agents, proxies) and a brief explanation of the information base (MIB).
Shoot, does anyone have a link to just some good doc's on SNMP?
How-To Graph New OID's?

I wrote a How-to in the Informational/howtos forum. That should answer your questions about creating the XML files and integrating them into Cacit.
unfortunately, determining the correct OIDs to use is a bit more difficult. Take a look at the MRTG message boards as they tend to have a lot of OIDs posted.

Check out getif http://www.wtcs.org/snmp4tpc/getif.htm
This is a windows client that will walk a MIB. Download the extra MIB pack if you wish. Type in your IP address and community string, then click on the MBrowser tab, click start and it will walk you entire MIB. It has all the descriptions etc, on the GUI. For linux, check out snmpwalk.
