Tree Migration

Post by bites »

And no I'm not talking about trees that walk :)

Hi, Long time Cacti user (rocks keep up the awesome work).
Normally I can find a solution to my problem by scouring the forums, however I have not yet found a solution to ... well a stuff up on my part.

I'm setting up cacti at the moment, however I set up a large number of devices in the wrong tree, well more I didn't think out the layout as well as I should have :)

Basically the tree is currently like this:

Code: Select all

Network (top of tree)
|
 ->SITE A
|
 ->SITE B
|
 ->SITE C
What I need to do is pretty much drop them all down in to a new tier so I can break out the graphing further.

Example

Code: Select all

(Top of Tree)
|
| ->Network
|  |
|   ->SITE A
|  |
|   ->SITE B
|  |
|   ->SITE C
|
| ->Voice
|  |
|   ->Callmanager 1
|  |
|   ->Gateway 1
|
  ->Windows Box
   |
    ->Host A
   |
    ->Host B
Is there a way to do this without basically deleting the trees and recreating them again?

If this has already been covered somewhere and my searching skills have failed me .. I apologise :)

In future versions of the Tree, it would be no problem. Currently it's a PITA and not officially supported. However, writing Automation using add_trees.php works great. So you can easily delete and recreate based upon whatever rule you want.

You would have to write a script though.

For those wondering, I'm still here, but lost in the shadows. Yearning for less bugs. Who want's a Cacti 1.3/2.0? Streams anyone?
