Graph Problem(Square Like Structure)

Post by ciscoking »

Dear All,

We are running Cacti(windows 2000) from August 2005 and it was working fine .
from last two dyas we are facing problem with the graph.
grpah looks like the Square steps and and no smooth graph.
What we ahve obsreved is graph value remains same for duration of 30 Min.
For example:[Router Serial Interface traffic] say graph is having value of X at 11:00 AM and that value remains same and at 11:30 it will take the value of Y. graph is plotted after every 30 minutes.
grpah is atatched for your referance.

I have checked poller.php ,scheduled tasks are runnign fien for every 5 minutes, but unable to trace the problem.
Kinldy help me.
Thanking you,
With Best Regards
Ciscoking

Moving to the windows forum.

1) Looks like your rrdtool version is set to 1.0 instead of 1.2

Odd. Go to your rrdtool directory and run rrdtool. What version?

Also, go to graph management, click on a graph, and enable graph debugging. Paste the text.

1) Upgrade your version of rrdtool.

2) Your lack of graph updates are possibly caused by your browser caching the image. Try clearing the cache and hitting refresh.

3) Are you using any plugins for cacti?

4) Are there any errors in your cacti log file?

square-alike graphs on hourly (1min) average graph

Post by maddog »

Hello all,
I'm having the same problem with hourly(1min) average graph, i see squares every minute.
The graph divided by a grid and each grid square represent 2minutes (5 squares between 10min).
The graph changes on every half grid square like steps not smoothly connected.

Here is my graph debug:
/usr/bin/rrdtool graph - \
--imgformat=PNG \
--start=-86400 \
--end=-300 \
--title="zlota - ## ************ ## - Gi1/0/5 " \
--rigid \
--base=1000 \
--height=120 \
--width=500 \
--alt-autoscale-max \
--lower-limit=0 \
--vertical-label="bits per second" \
--slope-mode \
--font TITLE:12: \
--font AXIS:8: \
--font LEGEND:10: \
--font UNIT:8: \
DEF:a="/var/lib/cacti/rra/zlota_traffic_in_94.rrd":traffic_in:AVERAGE \
DEF:b="/var/lib/cacti/rra/zlota_traffic_in_94.rrd":traffic_in:MAX \
DEF:c="/var/lib/cacti/rra/zlota_traffic_in_94.rrd":traffic_out:AVERAGE \
DEF:d="/var/lib/cacti/rra/zlota_traffic_in_94.rrd":traffic_out:MAX \
CDEF:cdefa=a,8,* \
CDEF:cdefd=b,8,* \
CDEF:cdefe=c,8,* \
CDEF:cdefh=d,8,* \
AREA:cdefa#00CF00FF:"Inbound" \
GPRINT:cdefa:LAST:" Current\:%8.2lf%s" \
GPRINT:cdefa:AVERAGE:"Average\:%8.2lf%s" \
GPRINT:cdefd:MAX:"Maximum\:%8.2lf%s\n" \
LINE1:cdefe#002A97FF:"Outbound" \
GPRINT:cdefe:LAST:"Current\:%8.2lf%s" \
GPRINT:cdefe:AVERAGE:"Average\:%8.2lf%s" \
GPRINT:cdefh:MAX:"Maximum\:%8.2lf%s"

RRDtool 1.2.19
No errors in cacti.log

Help will be much appreciated.
thanks.

Change your rrdtool version to 1.2 in cacti's settings. Also updating rrdtool might fix some other issues you've having (don't use 1.3 yet though).

I'm using rrdtool from ubuntu hardy repository and it seems that's its the latest version of rrdtool there. On Tobi's site the latest version is .28, do you suggest to remove the package and compile from source?

rrdtool 1.2.x & snmp 5.x is set there.
Also changed crontab pooling to 1 minute:
*/1 * * * * www-data php /usr/share/cacti/site/poller.php >/dev/null 2>/var/log/cacti/poller-error.log

and set "polling interval" & "cron interval" to "every minute" in Poller settings.
Recreated the graphs and still the same. :(

All other RRA's (daily, weekly, monthly) are ok.
thanks.

I think this is normal at that zoom level. Verify that your graph template has "Slope Mode" enabled though.

it's not zoom mode, its regular view of 1min average hourly graph RRA,
in graph template:
unchecked->Use Per-Graph Value (Ignore this Value)
checked-> Slope Mode (--slope-mode)

I want my graphs to look like in PRTG, they have 30sec averages very sexy graphs.

Show the graph debug/creation logic. If you see --slope-mode, then it's a bug in RRDtool. What version of RRDtool are you using?

By the way, the line is very clean, but very small.
