Realtime weathermap plugin

Post by hein »

I'm running Cacti 8.7 on a Windows XP box and I was wondering if it's possible to setup the poller to poll every 5 - 10 seconds? Right now I have the poller running every minute through a scheduled task.

Ultimately, I'd like to setup the weather plugin to display real time statistics so I can get a "live" view of our network.

Thanks.

Weathermap usually takes a fair chunk of RAM during it's run for image data, and at least a few seconds, depending on your maps. You probably wouldn't really want to run it every ten seconds.

If you use the poller_output support, there's no reason why it wouldn't actually work though, that I can see. Without poller_output, the load would be a LOT heavier, as each link would require running a seperate rrdtool process.

The only other issue you might run into is that if you are refreshing the page containing the map that often, then you might quite often get half an image, as weathermap writes over the top of the current image while you refresh. That's a potential problem for anyone, but when you are refreshing so often, it's more likely.

You can set it to run every 'n' poller cycles though, and in the upcoming 0.96, you can adjust the schedule per map, too, so you could have *some* realtime maps, some regular 5 minute maps, and some daily/monthly ones (which is what I put the schedule stuff in for).
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.
(Let me know if you have UK DevOps or Network Ops opportunities, too!)
