SNMP question

Post by Icer »

Hi,

I'm new with Cacti and alot of thing, but I would like to know if something is possible.

If we make a custom script that will return a value, can we retreive this value by Net SNMP or (SNMP) and make it appear on a graph.

I reed some stuff on the subject and the OID is making me crazy. Same thing with the XML file.

The script is made and will return a numerical value (only one). Below is a exemple :

Net-SNMP
[Cacti server]<------------------------>[Server 1]
|
|-------------->[Server 2]
|
|-------------->[Server 3]

The cacti server send an SNMP request to server 2, run the script and send back the result to cacti server and put the output value in the graph.

The part that is confusing me is that Net-SNMP seem to only return something with an OID. (MIB tree)
