If your snmpd.conf file only contains what you have in your post then there's your problem. When you're using Net-Snmp, the Sysdescr is pulled from the snmpd.conf file but the version information is pulled directly from the snmp information on the machine.
There should be an example of a full snmpd.conf file that you can follow to correctly configure so you get the correct information.

Any reason why you don't want to use the Microsoft SNMP agent?

Re: I want to be able to used snmpv3
huh? No. I suggest you read up on what SNMPv3 provides over v2.paulhuynh wrote:Also i want to be able to used all the cool plug in like exchange 2003 scripts and all so i though it would need snmp v3
Wrong again. The installation guide has you install the net-snmp TOOLS, not snmp agent.paulhuynh wrote:and beside cacti how too tellme to used netsnmp

For those wondering, I'm still here, but lost in the shadows. Yearning for less bugs. Who want's a Cacti 1.3/2.0? Streams anyone?
