Migrating device, migrating interfaces, but preserve data.

Post by laedrus »

Hello there,

I don't know if this feature exists, but i searched a easy or hard way for 2 days, and found nothing.

My problem is: until now i monitored some machines by the switch that they're connected to.

Now the switch is changed, and i have to add new device and new graphs, but to the same machines, so i want to preserve the names of the graphs, and it's data, the name is quite simple.

But i don't think there's a way to migrate data (maybe the rrd's, isn't it, where is the historic of the graphs), from the old to the new devices/graphs

so i ask to a method to migrate the rrd's from the old to the new files, maybe just an advice about how cacti create the rrd's help, as i didn't find anything much useful on the docs about it.

i think this is it, thanks!

As long as you are using the same data template (e.g. SNMP Interface Traffic) for the old and new devices, then you should be able to create new empty graphs, let that create rrds with the right names, then copy your old rrd files over the top (with the new names) to get your historical data back. It's a boring job, but it should work if the rrd DS names are the same etc.
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.
(Let me know if you have UK DevOps or Network Ops opportunities, too!)

Thanks for the advice, understanding a little more now ;-)

By the way, i'm confused in how to use, or the search tool isn't working?

just a commentary, but i like a lot this software and community, does it have an e-mail list?

I think most people use 'site:cacti.net' in google. The forum search isn't so good.

There are mailing lists, but they are not as popular.
